Kewaskum, WI Mildred A. Nelson 92 formerly of Racine passed away peacefully under the comfort of hospice care, on Wednesday morning October 9, 2013, in Kettle Moraine Gardens in Kewaskum from complications of pneumonia. She was born October 2, 1921 in Racine the daughter of Rudolph and Anna (nee: Barina) Simanek. Mildred married Leighton O. Nelson on April 11, 1942 in Racine. He passed away February 13, 1998. A homemaker, Mildred also worked at Chicago Rubber, and Oster Mfg. along with a real estate agency. She was a long time devoted member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church. Mildred had been a member of the YWCA, enjoyed exercising, playing cards, especially sheeps head, knitting, gardening, bowling, square dancing, and gambling. She was a “spunky gal”! Survivors include her loving son Richard L. (Janice) Nelson, 3 grandchildren; Aaron Nelson, Lauren (Daniel) Schneider, and Alexa Nelson, a brother Ralph (Jan) Simanek, 2 sisters; Adeline Wirtz, and Delores (Joe) Bauer, and a brother-in-law Jim (Jewel) Nelson. She is further survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Leighton A. “Butch” Nelson, 2 brothers; William ( Joann), and Harry (Delores) Simanek, sisters; Mary (Lee) Running, Beatrice (Fran) Atherton, Betty (Howard) Ward, and Anna (Ralph) Jacobson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday October 15, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 1903 Green St., Fr. Mark Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Old Holy Cross Cemetery on Kinzie Ave. Following the burial a lunch and visitation time will be held at Roma Lodge. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation or St. John Nepomuk Parish in Mildred’s name.;
