Ida L. Palaitis, 100, of Mount Pleasant, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2021 at The Woods of Caledonia. She was born on August 1, 1920 in Germany. Born the daughter of John and Augustina (NEE: Wosilait) Stahl. Ida married the late Adolf Palaitis on October 1, 1966 in Waukegan, Illinois. She worked for several years as a seamstress for Rainfair Inc. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Ingrid (Lars) Svensson and Kenneth (Jennifer) Petrikat. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Augustina, husband Adolf, daughter Ruth, son-in-law Walter, and her siblings, Meta, Ruth, John, Andreas, and Edward.
Ida loved her family, friends and had a deep faith in God that touched everyone around her. Spring was her favorite season with green grass and crocus flowers singing the promise of new life. She loved “The Sound of Music”, and the film’s sweeping views of the alps and lots of sunshine reminded her of her youth in Germany. She knew all the words to “Edelweiss” and would sing along both times it was sung in the movie. Ida also had a cheeky side and loved to watch the Three Stooges on Saturday nights and would laugh until she could hardly speak. Her happiness and the joy that she found in life will be dearly missed.
Funeral Services for Ida will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Racine Bible Church (12505 Spring St.) at 11 a.m. The family will receive guests at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Spencer DeBurgh is officiating. Private interment to follow at Graceland Cemetery.
We are the nieces and nephew of Tante Ida from the East Coast. She was a lovely, sweet person filled with Christian joy. We are so sorry to hear of her passing. To her family and friends we extend our sincerest condolences. She experienced so many things in her 100 years including many hardships during and after World War II but came through them all with her amazing faith. She was a wonderful person and an inspiration. With much love, the Palait children.
