RACINE Ella E. “Dolly” DeGroot 88 passed away Sunday August 19, 2012 in Newman Manor. She was born September 29, 1923 in Corliss, WI the daughter of Albert and Grace (nee: Kapaun) Exner. Ella married Edward L. DeGroot on October 23, 1943 in Racine. He passed away February 18, 2008. A homemaker, Ella also worked for Hamilton Beach and Webster Electric during World War II. She was a devoted member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church where she had been active in the Christian Mothers and Altar Society, The Catholic Family Movement, Cubs Scouts, and dartball. She and her husband Ed where very active with Toys for Tots for many years. Survivors include her sons Ron DeGroot and Robert (Joyce) DeGroot of Racine, 7 grandchildren; James (Joanna) Holub, Angel DeGroot, Melissa (Rich) Moos, Kristen (Matt) Kaprelian, Pam (Terry) Cisewski, Eric (Melissa) DeGroot, and Jared DeGroot, 10 great grandchildren; Amanda, Christopher, Matt, R.J., Nick, Matthew, Madilyn, Mikayla, Max, and Megan. Ella is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son James, two brothers Albert and Harold Exner, and many brothers-in law and sisters-in-law. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday August 27, 2012 at 11 a.m. in St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church 1903 Green St., Fr. Don Zerkel officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery on Hwy. 32. The family will receive guests in church on Monday from 10 to 10:50 a.m. A special thanks is given to Newman Manor, especially Josie Garcia and her staff for the quality and dignified care they gave Ella during her stay with them.;
