Karl N. Herdt, 83, passed away Friday January 1, 2016 in Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center.
He was born January 2nd 1932 in Munster, Germany, the son of Nikolaus and Margarete (Nee: Selmes) Herdt. He married his soul mate Elisabeth Heckwolf on January 24, 1958 in Frankfurt, Germany. He was employed with General Motors as a machine repair operator and retired in 1994. Karl was a veteran and served the Army from 1956-1958. He loved woodworking, gardening, hunting and fishing, and became a avid supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, which he joined in his youth. He loved his family and enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife Elisabeth “Elly” Herdt, two children Michael Herdt and Lisa (Todd) Gerl, and six grandchildren, Nikolaus “Niko” Noelle and Noah Herdt, Amber, Christoph, and Emily Carleton. One brother Hans Herdt of Germany and a special Cousin Liz (Ron) Schnulle. Karl is also survived by many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Private services and burial were held for Karl per his request
