Helen M. Muir

Helen M. Muir 89 passed away Friday morning October 9, 2015 in Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center following a long illness. She was born September 6, 1926 in Racine, the daughter of Michael and Genevieve (nee: Malec) Zukewich. Helen graduated from Horlick High School, and Mt. Mary College in Milwaukee in 1943. In 1945 she entered religious life with the Racine Dominican order and received the name Sister Mary Alan. She left the order in 1968 and on June 24, 1972 married Lester Muir. Helen was a math and science teacher at St. Catherine’s High School retiring in June 1988. She was also a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister, a greeter, a reader, and a member of the women’s club. She was also a member of the Castle Lanes Bowling League where she served as secretary and treasurer. Survivors include her husband Lester, a brother Ted Zukewich, nephews Tom, Mike, and Scott Zukewich, and a niece Tara (Randy) Zerzanek. She is also survived by other relatives and friends especially the Racine Dominican Sisters. Funeral Services will be Tuesday October 13, 2015 at 11 a.m. in Strouf Funeral Home. The family will receive guests on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services in the funeral home. Memorials to St. Rita’s parish would be appreciated. ;
