Our beloved Suzanne Rauch has left us. Born August 2, 1929. Died February 15, 2023. She was born in Marion, IN to Ray A. and Roxy Helen Benjamin during an unusual August cold snap. There was no heat, because a new furnace was in the process of being installed! She was a baby sister to John (“Ben”), Ray, Jr. and David.
Suzy attended Ball State University as a Piano Performance and Education major. She was married to her high school sweetheart the late
Richard A. “Dick” Rauch in 1950. They were devoted to each other and their family, son Richard A Rauch, Jr. (Deborah), daughter Rebecca Sue and grandchildren Richard A. Rauch, III and Samuel Gregory Rauch. Also many cherished nieces and nephews.
Suzy was vivacious, elegant and beautiful. She designed and kept a beautiful home and always served wonderful meals. She made sure the cookie jar was always full! She loved to entertain and was right beside Dick in his roles at the Chicago Real Estate Board and Chicago Union League Club, among many others. She served as president of the Winnetka Woman’s Club and was active in the New Trier Republican Organization, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter GC, Il, her church circle, and PTA. She was a life long lover of nature and animals. She was a devoted friend to many.
Services are private per Suzanne’s wishes.
She will remain in our hearts forevermore.
Suzy and Dick were wonderful neighbors-
Deepest sympathy to the family
Aunt Suzy was the best ever! She was there for me in the most difficult times.
We would talk with me while she baked cookies or made spaghetti sauce. She opened my eyes to God. I was blessed to have her as a pillar of love in my life.
Dear Family,
Another opportunity to send our love once the obituary appeared in the Chicago Sunday Tribune today.
As her PEO sister I agree with the many fine traits mentioned and which she exhibited, so she is greatly missed by me and also by my husband Dick. May
God bless each of her family members, who watched over her carefully With God all things are possible.
Much love,
Betsy and Dick Rutledge
With
God
My sincerest condolences to the Rauch family. Dearest Suzy was my angel mother Bernice’s best friend. Suzy and Dick were her treasured friends ~ and the most beautiful, warm couple. I remember Suzy’s wonderful, kind and joyful personality ~ and will always cherish the laughter, and deep friendship as kindred spirits my adored mother and Suzy shared.
Rich,
I am so sorry to learn (belatedly) of your mother’s (and father’s) death(s). I enjoyed our chats those early mornings when I stopped by on the way to school. She always was so welcoming. Our parents’ absences are far more difficult than I ever imagined. — Gina
