Ernest Harry Schlegel, 67, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, February 6,2024 in Oak Creek, WI. Ernest was born August 11, 1956, in Racine, the son of the late Harold and Ada (Nee: Coggins) Schlegel. He was a high school graduate of William Horlick High School in Racine. Ernest was employed through the City of Racine where he held many job titles over his tenure, he also held the Steward position for the AFSCME Local 67. Ernest proudly served for many years with the United States Navy, at one time being stationed in Japan. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and golfing, and was quite the baseball fan who loved to attend the Chicago Cubs games. He will be deeply missed by his two daughters, Kathy Nacemento and Christy Haas, both of Eau Claire, WI, one sister Ruth, good friends, Mark (Annette) Gronholm, Mark (Cheryl) Oravetz, Michael (Jill Falaschi) and Kevin Klein, along with many other numerous acquaintances he may have come in contact with through his life. Ernest is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ada. A memorial service will be held to celebrate the life of Ernest on Monday, February 26, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in Strouf Funeral Home, 1001 High Street. The family will receive guests in the funeral home on Monday, February 26, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

I worked with Ernie in 1979. He always did his share of the work, took care of the equipment, had good work habits, & cared about job quality. I last saw him in 2019. It was great catching up, & sharing stories from an earlier, simpler time.
