Danka “Nana” Anastasovski
Danka Anastasovski, known as “nana” to many, passed away peacefully in her sleep May 13th, 2023 in Racine County, WI at age 81.
Born on 6/30/41 in Trstenik, Serbia, Danka was the youngest daughter of Pikola and Ljubica Milosavljevic. Danka met the love of her life, Ilija Anastasovski, in her early twenties, and married him 5/3/1964. Together with their first child, Alex Anastasovski, Danka and Ilija made the big move to America in 1966. Danka and Ilija went on to welcome their second child, Lila Anastasovski shortly after arriving in America.
Throughout her years, Danka prided herself in taking excellent care of her family, friends, and any animal that crossed her path. She was an extremely hard worker, and was never afraid of getting her hands dirty to help those she loved. Danka would spend countless hours each summer working in her garden. She was often stopped by neighbors and passersby who couldn’t help but compliment all of the beautiful flowers that she would so lovingly tend to. Danka was an extremely loving mother and grandmother, and anyone who knew her knew how deeply she loved those closest to her. Danka made sure no animal ever left her yard hungry, and loved to spend her time outside watching all of the different wildlife come and go with her family and friends. Danka’s zest for life was contagious, and her fiery passionate spirit will continue to live on through all who loved her.
Danka will be deeply missed by her children, Alex (Kelli) Anastasovski, Lila Anastasovski, her grandchildren Natalia (Reece) Anastasovski-Bauer, Aleksandar Anastasovski, Sofia Anastasovski, her closest lifelong friends Ljubinka Radojevich and Kathy Sigler, and countless other friends and extended family members that will miss her dearly. Danka was preceded in death by her lifelong love, husband Ilija Anastasovski, her parents Pikola and Ljubica Milosavljevic, her brother Petar Milosavljevic, and her sister Radmilla Milosavjevic. A special thank you to Dr. Mark DeCheck, for the many years of outstanding care you provided to Danka.
Funeral services honoring Danka’s life will be held Friday, May 19th 2023 at 11:00 A.M in Strouf Funeral home in Racine, WI. The family will welcome guests in Strouf Funeral Home on Friday, May 19, 2023 from 10:00 A.M. until the start of service. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
Danka will miss you greatly – remember when you came to this country – I was in my teens then – you always were kind to everyone – and will miss you – you are no longer in pain and now have rejoined with the loved ones who are waiting for you with open arms
Dear Danka, it’s time to say goodbye, but know, you will be always on my mind and in my heart.
You were the most beautiful soul, full of love and care for others. Cheerful, kind, authentic and very special to me.
I know, I will miss you, but your loved ones on the other side missed you too. Hope, you will be with all of them, happy and healthy again.
Acko and Lila, I am so sorry for your loss. May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of your mom and of joyful times you spent with her.
Memory eternal to our “salt of the earth” Dankashin!!! Dragan and I loved you like a sestra!!!! Fond memories of our glorious days bonding at Serbian Brother’s Help Lodge in the 90’s! Your passion to volunteer as the most hardworking and laborious cook/server/etc. was unwavering and mighty!!! Working along side you was a honor. Your labor of love benefitted hundreds of residents in elderly homes from your homeland of Serbia. Give a BIG hug to Tata for me….see you a little bit down the road! Love Always, your Nada/Mark/Peter/Nina
Dana dear Danka, so sorry to hear of your passing. Was going to invite you to Tom and my commitment. Ceremony next weekend. YesTom is finally making an honest woman out of me. I will miss you, will not be able to pass your house without a tear coming to mind. Your garden had so many people that crossed your path who have surely been enriched by your care and concern. Rest easy dear. You deserve it.
