Catherine A. “Katie” Krizan 88 passed away Saturday April 5, 2014 in Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born January 20, 1926 in Rochelle, IL the daughter of Winthrop A. and Helen Marie (nee: Van Velzer) O’Brien. Katie married Wendell J. Krizan on September 24, 1949 in Rochelle, IL. He passed away October 13, 2005. After nursing school Katie was an Emergency Room R.N., and then became a a surgical nurse. She was an operating room supervisor for 35 years at St. Mary’s Hospital retiring in 1988. She also served in the U.S. Army Cadet Corps, and was a long time member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church where she was active with the Christian Women. She was also a member of Pheasants Forever, served as president of AORN and was active with UCT/Special Olympics. Katie enjoyed crafts, gardening, and spending time with her loving family. Survivors include her children; Diane (Ralph) Riemer, Alisa Krizan, Christopher Krizan, and Jenifer (Dean) LaBelle, her son-in-law John Coley, 4 grandchildren; John Coley Jr., Kelly J. Coley, Katrina (Bryan) McGovern, and Joseph R. (Jennifer) Bieber, three great grandchildren; Ella, Abby and Emma, and a sister Hazel Manarchy. Katie is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Cassandra Coley, a sister and a brother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday April 9, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 1903 Green St. Fr. Don Zirkel officiating. Entombment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery Garden Crypts on Hwy. 32. The family will receive guests on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m in Strouf Funeral Home, and also on Wednesday in church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Katie’s children wish to thank her caregivers Nicole and Hattie for their dignified and loving care they gave to our mom. ;
