Kurt was born in Pyritz/Pommern Germany on January 23, 1934, the son of the late Franz and Maria (nee: Pannenberg) Polikowski. Kurt’s soccer career began in Reckling Germany, then playing in Badsege Berg a province on Holstein, traveling throughout Germany. In 1958, while playing in Hamberg Germany he and four other teammates were offered sponsorship to come to the United States and play professionally. They were sponsored by a group of local businessmen and would be playing in the Major League, now known as the American Soccer League. These young men were under contract to play a minimum of two years. Kurt stayed here, and while playing, they were Wisconsin champions several times and he held the record of scoring the most goals in Wisconsin.

On August 17, 1960 he was united in marriage to Rosemary DeRosier in Milwaukee. They were together for 56 years until her passing on January 26, 2006.

Kurt had been employed with McDonalds on Douglas Avenue as a store manager, while he was recruited to attend “McDonald’s University” in Brownsville, TX. He became a General Manger of the Houston Region Area, where he received their Achievement Award. Kurt worked side by side with his wife, Rosemary, as she was an administrator for McDonalds. He also managed the German Club here in Racine.

Surviving is nieces, Sharon (Kim) Moulds and Shirley (Cliff) Ostlund all of Racine.

In keeping with Kurt’s wishes, private services have taken  place, with entombment at West Lawn Memorial Park.
