Julia Lopez, 87, of Racine, Wisconsin passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long illness with dementia at Lake Shore Sienna Center Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Julia was born to David and Petra (Nee: Perez) Garza, on October 1, 1938 in Montemorelos, Nuevo León, Mexico. She came to the United States as a young child. It was during her years working on farms that she met the love of her life, Urbano L. Lopez. They married in Brownsville, Texas on January 22, 1962 and then moved to Racine, Wisconsin. Julia was Catholic and believed in the power of Vicks and prayed for her family and friends every night. She took great pride in being a homemaker and caring for her family and many children as a babysitter. She enjoyed cooking, listening and dancing to Mexican music, beautiful flowers, family trips and adventures, and simply sitting on the porch with her dog Gemini. Throughout her life, Julia always made people feel welcome and at home. She was devoted to her family and friends and was always there to offer a helping hand and support. Julia will be remembered for her compassion, her kindness, and generosity. Julia will be deeply missed by her daughters Herlinda Lopez and SanJuanita (Mary) Revoy Lopez, and her son Urbano Lopez, Jr.  She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Rachel (Harry Hinton III) Lopez, Sierra (Evan Rhodes) Lopez and Alonte (Alondra) Lopez, great-grandchildren Emilio (Alexia), Elianna, Mateo, Harry IV, Elisianna, Marco, Shakena along with two great-great grandchildren Anahi and Emiliana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Urbano L. Lopez, her parents, David and Petra (Nee: Perez) Garza, sisters, Antonia and Juanita (Russell), brother, Guadalupe (Fela), and many dear friends along the way. The family would like to thank the Racine County Aging and Disability Resource Center and the staff at Lake Shore Siena. The family would like to especially thank Alma Rincon who provided excellent and compassionate care to Julia. A memorial gathering for Julia will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Strouf Funeral Home, 1001 High Street, Racine, with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m.
